FANTA developed a Spanish-language recipe book for government and USAID partner staff to promote improved diets for women and young children in the Guatemalan Western Highlands. Organized in sections for children of different age groups and pregnant and lactating women, the book provides recipes that use foods included in the food-based recommendations (FBRs) developed by FANTA and partners with the Optifood tool. The recipe book is accompanied by a guide that discusses breastfeeding and complementary feeding; maternal nutrition during pregnancy and lactation; use of the FBRs to improve diet quality, hygiene practices, and food handling; and how to use the recipes during training, counseling, and social and behavior change activities. The audience for the recipe book and guide are staff from the Ministry of Heath, Ministry of Agriculture, the Secretariat for Food Security and Nutrition, and USAID/Guatemala partners, who can use it as a tool to inform, educate, and communicate with various target groups.
